A transport card (also called a transit card, travel card, or smart card) is a card used to pay for public transportation such as buses, metro/subway systems, trams, and trains.
Most modern transport cards are reusable and store either:
○ money (stored value) — you load funds onto the card and fares are deducted when you travel.
○ passes or subscriptions — such as a weekly, monthly, or annual travel pass.
